Alberto Antonio Foresta

Born in Caltanissetta on the 12 of december 1990 and raised in nearby San Cataldo, since the early age he was fond of art and painting in particular, thanks to the influence of his painter father. He began his academic studies in the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo and he obtained his three-year degree in  Didactics of Art with full marks; currently he studies and lives in Florence and is graduating in History of Art at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy. He is interested in society and its contradictions, through the use of multiple expressive channels, ranging from photography to painting, from installation to video-art, he has tried to highlight, with a critical or ironic gaze, that natural propensity for everyday life , to family affections, interests and cultural references always within a broader interpretative overview. Anachronistically melancholic, the entire pictorial investigation of the Sicilian Alberto Antonio Foresta contains the hopes and testimonies the artistic research of the early twentieth century. The search for fauves is implicit in its colors, since: "it is the color that constitutes the space of the painting and expresses the emotion, or the inner sense of the composition, independent of the visual reality"; in his figures, however, the consummate memory sedimented in the memory of his experiences of daily life, very close to the worn portraits, self-portraits and Schiele lovers is alive. In Foresta's works The continuous research becomes the only existential reason to practice art, in fact, the historical needle is soon moved, making a leap forward to the experiences and researches of abstract expressionism: with large canvases and drafts of vibrant color by Rothko, Gottlieb, Newman, Reinhardt and all the representatives of color fild painting. Many cultural repositories that find a home in themes and research ideas, which come together in works consisting of weak figures in the Buongiorno Hitler series (2014) or with saturated colors and strong chromatic contrasts in geometric backgrounds in which suddenly the contours become so faint that they disappear , as in the Harmonia Mundi series (2014). Always evolving and rich in artistic, cultural, social and popular references, Foresta, introducing himself, has told that "the need for painting is combined with an education rooted in establishing contacts with contemporary society, often even entering into conflict and emphasizing the infinite contradictions. " Always aimed to experimentation and evolution, the work of Foresta boasts a heterogeneous corpus, since the production is not limited to the exclusive use of the pictorial medium, but also exudes in "expressive means of different nature, ranging from painting to photography, from installation to video art. My main interest is turned to the use of color and its perception always exploiting strong chromatic contrasts and saturated loads » as he himself affirmed. This evident desire to investigate and use the various possibilities of art is evident in the various photographic projects, as in the series Supplica a mia Madre (2015) from the immediate Pasolini reference, to the unpublished series Per mia Colpa, mia grandissima Colpa ( 2015), in which the author highlights the ambiguity and social investigation as the spokesperson. The use of a black and white with a strongly retro taste clashes with the contemporary taste of the uncertain and the indefinite, since without sharpness and confused outlines, the photographs, with a strong academic structure, are disrupted by explosions of color , up to incorporate and replace the same subject, becoming the absolute protagonist of the scene.
