Emilio Greco was born in Catania on the 11th October 1913. As a child he already demonstrated his passion for art. He spent thirteen years following an illness of his father, he had to leave school to work in a sculptor's workshop of funerary monuments, where, happy with the stroke of luck, he quickly learnt to rough the marble and remained in it until late hours to model details of classical works in clay. Between the 30s and 40s he completed his artistic preparation by attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo. The progression of the fame of the sculptor is impressed, as is the amount of work that Emilio Greco managed to accumulate among terracotta, marble sculptures, even large ones, portraits and many drawings that entered the major exhibitions of the world. He died in Rome on the 4th of April, 1995. In Orvieto, the museum dedicated to Greco collects his main works: twenty-six sculptures from 1947 to 1983, sixty drawings from 1946 to 1991, medals and bas-reliefs.
